Quantity Surveyor/Estimator (Steel Structure)

Job Summary:

Our client, a reputable company in the steel fabrication industry in the UAE, is seeking a skilled QS/Estimator. The selected candidate will be responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates, reviewing tender documents, and ensuring accurate submissions. The role requires coordination with internal teams, vendors, subcontractors, and project stakeholders to ensure estimations meet client and project requirements. A minimum of 5 years of UAE experience in the steel fabrication industry is required.

Key Responsibilities:

• Communicates with other departments to ensure all documentation required is contained within the tender submission.
• Ensure all documentation for tender submissions is complete by coordinating with other departments.
• Prepare construction budgets by analyzing plans, updating specifications, and projecting costs.
• Evaluate purchase offers, cost changes, and site requirements.
• Obtain and negotiate bids from vendors and subcontractors.
• Update and maintain cost keys and price masters; resolve cost discrepancies.
• Draft and review tender documents and system drawings, addressing any discrepancies.
• Follow tendering processes, ensuring compliance with codes and standards.
• Review design outputs for contractual compliance and prepare final tender documents.
• Assess impacts of design changes and client revisions on the project.
• Manage and file various tenders, ensuring quality and compliance.
• Assist the Estimating Manager with financial and contractual aspects throughout the design stages.
• Prepare BOQs and Preambles for different contract types and standards; liaise with designers.
• Ensure accurate and prompt submittal of BOQs and Estimates, maintaining high-quality standards.
• Review, negotiate, and prepare claim settlements with clients and engineers.
• Audit and verify measurements of completed work, providing corrective actions as needed.
• Participate in evaluating contractor claims and preparing all stages of estimates.
• Advise on measurement procedures, unit rates, and variation engineering proposals.
• Ensure completeness of all contractual requirements and participate in commercial presentations and meetings.
• Maintain and streamline cost and quantity records, monitor contractor resource allocation, and prepare financial statements.
• Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and prepare BOQs for client approval.
• Maintain and back up the cost database.

• Education: Bachelor's/Master’s Degree or Diploma in Engineering (preferably in Steel Fabrication or a related field).
• Experience: Minimum of 5 years of UAE experience in the steel fabrication industry.
• Strong understanding of tendering processes, cost estimation, and budgeting.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Excellent negotiation and vendor management skills.
• Familiarity with discipline codes and standards.
