Principal Piping Engineer

Primary Objective

Supervises, assigns, and schedules work, usually for a major project or several minor projects, simultaneously, under general direction of the Discipline Chief Engineer. May supervise specialized technical sub-groups.

Specific Accountabilities

- Input to coaching, teaching, mentoring and effective supervision of assigned personnel
- Assists in the developing and implementation of Piping Engineering administrative and technical practices, specifications, and procedures
- Monitors and implements Quality Checking Procedures and ensures they are adhered to
- Responsible for developing Project Piping Engineering CTR's for review with Discipline Chief Engineer
- Responsible for input into the Plot Plan development and maintenance
- Assures that design continuity is maintained throughout the entire project
- Reports to the Discipline Chief Engineer on the status of Piping Engineering activities and deliverables
- Ensures communication flow, both verbal and written, is maintained within Piping Engineering and with other engineering disciplines
- Coordinates Piping design activities with other engineering groups
- Identifies deviations in job scope, estimates changes, and initiates PVN's for review with Discipline Chief Engineer
- Prepares and distributes design instructions pertaining to plant design requirements and drafting procedures
- Represents Piping Engineering in meetings with suppliers, subcontractors, licensors, clients, and other Company disciplines, and produces documentation required for conference or meeting notes
- Submits Project Design standards, specifications, documents and drawings for issue.
- Assists in the development of the Piping Engineering Section of the project completion report
- Stand in for Discipline Chief Engineer if required during periods of absence
- On assignment to the field, co-ordinates or carries out work on site surveys, measurements, acts of acceptance, and other site engineering activities Principal Piping Engineer

Piping Specific Activities and Deliverables

- Produce designs either using CAD or manually
- Produce material counts from documents and input into computer systems
- Produce other computer based or manual documents as required
- Check designs and details
- Produce requisitions and technical appraisals
- Produce and check design calculations
- Produce proposals and estimates
- Control and demonstrate progress of layout, material, stress and CAD activities matched with appropriate resources within a given budget

- Pipe Material Specification Sheets

- Relevant years of experience is required depending on the individual, prior experience or additional training, job assignments, etc.
- Relevant Project Lead Engineer experience Matching Indicators (Qualifications/Professional Registration)
- BSc or B Tech Mechanical Engineering degree from recognized institute
- Registered as a Professional Engineer at ECSA Principal Piping Engineer
