The International and Government Affairs department helps Emirates to navigate the complex global environment in which we operate and is responsible for managing relationships with governments, international organizations, and other stakeholders around the world.

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity to join us at Emirates as a Manager International and Government Affairs. Reporting into the VP International and Government Affairs, this opportunity will be responsible for initiating, implementing, and managing the international and government affairs activities that support Emirates' current and future policy, market access, reputational and commercial aspirations. With a geographic focus, establish and maintain key relationships and ensure an early warning system on major political and government affairs issues is in place while managing our response to such issues. The Manager International and Government Affairs will ensure consistent, high-quality dialogues take place with stakeholders in key and high potential markets.

What you will do

- Establish and maintain high quality relationships across government, civil society, multi-laterals, NGOs and trade associations within a geographical remit. Manage this core group of relationships with a focus on key governments and maintain consistent communications.
- Implement and manage communication activities within the international and government affairs function.
- Source valuable intelligence and accurate advice involving the monitoring and analysis of international and government affairs environment with a view to determine the impact of these on Emirates' interests around the world.
- Oversee and contribute to departmental projects including events, hospitality management and internally produced collateral and written material.
- Proactively and reactively manage all key issues such as legislative, public policy or political threats and opportunities including various lobbying activities, focusing on ensuring favourable commercial outcomes for emirates in the areas of liberalisation, market access, regulatory challenges, economic and industry policies, and broader environmental and sustainability issues.
- Work co-operatively with other areas of the airline and Group to ensure related activities of other departments are well co-ordinated and appropriately focused. Where applicable, manage various consultant (lobbyist) relationships and requirements externally.
- Keep the Vice President International, Government and Affairs and senior management well informed on relevant international political, economic, social, trade, communications, regulatory policies relating to air transport and advise Emirates management on their impact and magnitude on Emirates current and future commercial activities and ensure that Emirates' concerns and interests are adequately reflected in government decisions, whenever possible.
- Protect and enhance Emirates' reputation and shareholder value. Engage with governments, civil society, multi-laterals, NGOs and trade associations. Help mitigate reputational risks and create a positive climate of opinion for Emirates.
- Provide support to Emirates environmental sustainability programme.
- Participate in relevant industry forums, associations and campaigns and provide direction and development support to direct reports.

Requirements:

- Degree or Honours in (12+3 years or equivalent) Economics, Business, International Affairs, Finance, Languages, Science, or equivalents.
- Degree preferably in a related subject i.e. political science, international affairs, public policy, or communications.
- 10+ years experience in either government, public or international affairs or lobbying and campaigning or commercial/sales.
- Practical experience with and exposure to transport policy, aero-politics and environmental/sustainability topics and policies an advantage.

You will have an edge if you have:
- In-depth knowledge of the airline industry or equivalent.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Persuasion and influence skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
