Scientist, Pilot Plant

JOB PURPOSE

Assists to interface between research activities for Pilot Plant Operations and Process Group, Pilot Test Data Exploitation & Theoretical Calculations, in line with Company's QHSE standards in order to facilitate the achievement of pilot plant operations objectives.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Development & Evaluation of New Technology
- Assists supervisor to conduct studies and evaluate new technologies in pilot plant operations and catalyst testing technology and systems to facilitate optimization of refinery operations.
- Recommends new catalyst testing methods, by co-operating with catalysis Section researchers, research institutions and catalyst suppliers.

Pilot Plant Operations
- Assists Supervisor in maintaining research activities on new technologies within and without ARRC, whilst recommending solutions and following up on implementation to facilitate achievement of desired results.
- Provides input to prepare pilot plant test program and pilot plant test report.
- Co-ordinates with Process Engineering, Process Modelling and Simulation and Catalysis Sections to conduct test runs, tests new catalyst and suggests changes in pilot process if necessary, ensuring adherence to ARRC procedures and standards.
- Interfaces with process sections for pilot test data interpretation, prepares performance summary and recommendations.
- Provides functional assistance to pilot plant in test checking alternatives, diagnosing process and corrosion problems and preparing technical specifications of operating chemical and materials.
- Prepares research reports on pilot plant performance summaries including conducting studies of the laboratory testing reports, standard log sheets while recommending corrective action to support optimization of operations.
- Develops tools to interpret pilot plant operating data, evaluates unit efficiencies by relating to heat and mass balance, hydrogen consumption while identifying any possible trend and reporting same for management decision making.
- Assists in performing a variety of process engineering duties for pilot plant operations, including monitoring performance of pilot data and providing recommendations.
- Ensures coordination with all relevant internal and external units to facilitate presentation of pilot test data and achievement of results as per defined timelines and quality standards.
- Develops methods to perform the analysis of special test results in order to provide further information and insight for the effectiveness of testing and for alternative methods.

Support for Tendering & Contract Management
- Identifies the need of new pilot plant units to meet objective to support refinery & process group.
- Participates in design and development of specifications for new pilot plant equipment, together with superior, to ensure that all product requirements and services are provided cost effectively in accordance with defined standards and procedures ensuring optimum protection of ARRC's business interests.
