Responsibilities

- Support the site selection process.
- Perform operational assessment and risk analysis of third-party colocation sites.
- Own colocation sites facility operation within an area/region, with full accountability for this area tactically and strategically.
- Keep main stakeholders informed about current work and discuss strategic decisions and directions with them.
- Contribute to focus area strategy and setting strategy for smaller local groups.

Requirements

Minimum qualifications:

- Associate's degree, trade school certification, or other certified training in a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Candidates will typically have 7 years of Mechanical/HVAC experience in an industrial or commercial environment.
- Ability to lift and move 50 lbs of equipment, and work on platforms, ladders, and under raised floors.
- Ability to work non-standard hours and work rotations/shifts.

Preferred qualifications:

- Typically have 4 years of experience in a HVAC, electrical, controls, water chemistry, generators, mechanical, or similar technical domain.
- Experience working in data center environments, including building and operating infrastructure.
- Experience in critical facility operation management.
- Ability to perform operational assessment and risk analysis of third-party sites.
- Ability to forecast resource requirements in a data-driven way.
- Ability to forecast resource requirements in a data-driven approach.

About the job
The Data Center team designs and operates some of the most sophisticated electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and HVAC systems in the world. Facility Technicians at Google data centers operate, monitor and support physical facilities conditions. Some duties will include heating and cooling of air and water, power supply, generators, UPS systems, electrical distribution and control and monitoring systems. You regularly help inspect, maintain and repair various data center systems such as piping and non-critical electrical or mechanical system components). You'll provide daily assistance to senior technicians as you read blueprints/schematics, conduct tours of systems and assess their working order.

You will develop creative approaches to reducing operational costs while improving overall data center efficiency. You ensure that environmental and safety standards are consistently met, identifying problems and making repairs quickly In emergency situations or abnormal conditions, you manage data center performance issues and outages to minimize the recovery time from failures.

As a Data Center Technical Operations Manager, you will partner with the Google Data Center Engineering team, hardware operations, network infrastructure, and third-party data center extended workforce.

In this role, you will be the advocate of the operations organization, and will be responsible to ensure operability, maintainability, and reliability are critical criteria for Google assets.
